What whitening at a clinic actually involves

Whitening done at a clinic is more effective, more comfortable and less irritating to teeth and gums than a kit off the shelf. The active agent, usually hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, breaks down the pigments that have settled into the enamel, and a plasma or laser light source activates the gel so the chemical process works faster and more evenly.

We work with carefully selected, gentle products and world-class equipment, and every session is tailored to your teeth and the shade you start from. Most people see a significant difference after the very first appointment. If you come across the word tandblekning while searching in Swedish, that is simply what this treatment is called here.

  • pH-neutral whitening gel that keeps the enamel intact
  • Whitening gel from an established European manufacturer, used within the EU limit for hydrogen peroxide
  • Gums protected with a gel or rubber dam so only the teeth are affected
  • The price covers both the upper and lower jaw
  • More than 25,000 whitening treatments performed at the clinic

The whitening process, step by step

The whole appointment takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on which package you choose, and there is no downtime afterwards.

  • Preparation and protection. We start by protecting the gums with a gel or a rubber dam, so that only the teeth are exposed to the whitening agent.
  • Whitening gel. Our high-quality, pH-neutral gel is applied evenly across the teeth. It is gentle on the enamel and breaks down discolouration effectively.
  • Light or laser activation. An advanced light or laser source activates the gel and speeds up the process for a faster, more even result. You simply lie back and relax.
  • Result and evaluation. We remove the products and go through the result with you together, comparing it with the shade you started from.

The discolouration we whiten away

Enamel is porous, so anything strongly coloured that passes over it year after year leaves a mark. In-clinic whitening reaches deeper than everyday toothpaste and lifts both surface and mid-depth discolouration.

  • Coffee and tea. Tannins and colour pigments bind to the surface of the enamel and leave a yellowish or brownish tone, and hot drinks open the pores further.
  • Smoking and nicotine. Nicotine and tar from cigarettes, e-cigarettes and snus work into the enamel and leave darker, yellow-brown staining. A clear difference is visible even after many years of smoking.
  • Red wine and strongly coloured food. Red wine, dark berries, curry, soy sauce and tomato sauce all stain, and acidic foods such as citrus and soft drinks temporarily soften the enamel.
  • Age-related yellowing. Enamel thins over time, the yellower dentine underneath shows through and small cracks collect pigment. Whitening can turn that back by several shades.

Booking as an English speaker in Stockholm

If you have recently moved to Sweden, a private aesthetic clinic can be hard to judge from the outside. Our staff speak English, so the consultation, the aftercare advice and any questions you have about your teeth are all handled in a language you are comfortable in. There is no need to bring a Swedish-speaking friend along.

Laserklinikcenter is registered with IVO, the Swedish Health and Social Care Inspectorate and carries patient insurance with Folksam. The clinic has been running for over 11 years, and whitening is carried out by trained staff who have performed more than 25,000 whitening treatments.

Pricing is published in full before you book. The price covers both the upper and lower jaw, there is no separate consultation fee, and nothing is added at the end of the appointment unless you choose the optional sealant yourself. Booking is done online through Bokadirekt, and you will find us at Upplandsgatan 19A, a few minutes from Odenplan. The same team also handles laser hair removal and lip fillers in English.

Who teeth whitening suits, and who should wait

Whitening is a good fit if you want a brighter smile quickly and gently, if you have something coming up such as a wedding, a party or a photo shoot, if you have whitened before and want to refresh the result, or if you want an even, natural finish without spending two weeks on trays at home.

It is not suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, since the safety of whitening products during pregnancy has not been fully established, and we advise against it under the age of 18 because teeth and enamel are still developing. Crowns, veneers and fillings are made of materials that do not change colour, so they stay as they are, which is worth knowing if you have visible restorations at the front. A small number of people feel some sensitivity for a few hours up to a day afterwards, and it usually passes on its own.

Aftercare: the first 48 hours

For 48 hours after whitening the enamel is more receptive to colour, so it pays to avoid anything strongly coloured or acidic:

  • Coffee, tea, cola and other soft drinks
  • Red wine and white wine
  • Nicotine in any form
  • Ketchup, beetroot, blueberries and soy sauce
  • Apples and citrus fruit

Keeping the result

If two days of restraint sounds impossible, add the Brilliant Smile Nanoseal Total+ sealant (Superseal) for 600 SEK on the day. It seals the teeth so you can eat and drink strongly coloured food and drink straight after the treatment.

After that, rinsing with water after meals helps stop new stains from settling, and cutting down on smoking makes a noticeable difference to how long the result holds. The result of a professional whitening usually lasts up to three years, though this varies from person to person and depends on lifestyle and oral hygiene.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you speak English at the clinic?

Yes. Our staff speak English, so the consultation, the treatment itself and the aftercare advice are all handled in English. You can also email us at info@laserklinikcenter-st.se or call 010-205 14 56 if you would rather ask your questions before booking.

How much does teeth whitening cost in Stockholm?

At Laserklinikcenter, Medium is 1,250 SEK and Large is 1,950 SEK during the current 50% campaign, down from 2,500 SEK and 3,900 SEK. Both prices cover the upper and lower jaw. The only optional extra is the Brilliant Smile sealant at 600 SEK.

How long does teeth whitening take?

Medium takes about 30 minutes and Large about 60 minutes, including preparation and evaluation. The optional sealant adds around 5 minutes. There is no recovery time, so you can go straight back to work or out for the evening.

How many shades whiter will my teeth get?

Medium lifts the shade by up to 5 steps and Large by up to 10. The exact result depends on the shade you start from and the type of discolouration, and we go through your result together at the end of the session.

Does teeth whitening hurt?

For most people the treatment is comfortable. A small number experience sensitivity for a few hours up to a day afterwards, and this is usually short-lived and settles by itself. Your gums are protected with a gel or rubber dam throughout, so only the teeth are exposed to the whitening agent.

How long do the results last?

The result of a professional whitening usually lasts up to three years. It is not permanent, and how long it holds varies from person to person depending on lifestyle and how well you look after your oral hygiene. Coffee, red wine and smoking will shorten it.

Is clinic whitening better than a home whitening kit?

Clinic whitening uses a stronger professional agent, your gums are protected, and it is finished in 30 to 60 minutes. Home kits use a weaker product from a shop shelf, you apply everything yourself without gum protection, and it takes around two weeks with a higher risk of an uneven result.

Can you whiten crowns, veneers or fillings?

No. Crowns, veneers and fillings are made of materials such as porcelain or ceramic that do not change colour the way natural enamel does. Only your natural teeth respond to the treatment, so it is worth thinking about how visible restorations will look against a brighter shade.

Can I book without a Swedish personal number or BankID?

Yes. Booking goes through Bokadirekt and only asks for your name, email address and phone number — no personal identity number and no BankID. You pay at the clinic after the treatment, and we accept foreign Visa and Mastercard as well as Swish.
